What is most important capability when you work cross culturally?

Adaptability simply means the capacity to change, alter, and modify in order to better fit within a prevailing uncomfortable situation and/or context. It’s also a coping mechanism, as we usually adapt in life or death situations. Basically in those cases we change over night. From the word’s composition, ‘adapt-ability,’ we see that it deals with each individual’s stretch-ability, their adaptability to face a stressful or uncomfortable situation, as well as their emotional ability.

Agility means the capacity to adapt to changes in context. It does not mean that you will change your basic character or your values. It means that your intentions are positive, and that you realize that any outside change first requires inner transformation. Agility first requires that you change your mind and your thinking, and then your behavior will follow.

Those two leadership qualities were perhaps not even known 20 years ago. They definitely were not talked about in business. It was about technical mastery, discipline, confidence, communication, resourcefulness and hard work. Do you recognize how those two skills are also relevant to what is expected from us today?
